Comprehensive Behavioral Health

COMPREHENSIVE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH FOR ADULTS IN AL, FL, & ID

Psychiatry that’s more than medication.

You deserve comprehensive care.

Medication is an amazing tool for mental health, but it's definitely not the only one.

You deserve a plan that utilizes every possible modality to help you feel your best. Sleep, nutrition, movement, social connection, and so many other tools can be used to help you feel better in your mental health.

You are not just your body, and you are not just your mind.

You are all of that and more.

Your mental health care should address all of you, not just your medication.

I specialize in supporting you with a personalized approach that combines medication with lifestyle & understanding.

I love working with individuals to explore and understand all the facets of their mental health.  Together we can dig deep into your history, your biology, and your goals so we can understand why you feel the way you do and what we can do about it.

You’ll leave each visit with a plan that meets you where you are right now now while still moving you towards your vision for your mental health.

And while this approach isn’t always an easy or quick process, it’s one that creates meaningful and lasting change. And isn’t that the whole point?!?

Light Therapy

Did you know little changes can make a big improvement ?

Light therapy - sitting near a full spectrum light source for 30 minutes in the morning - is effective for seasonal effective disorder. But it can also be used to improve major depression or even perinatal depression after pregnancy.

“Normal” levels of magnesium, B12, Vitamin D, and even iron may be enough to prevent serious diseases, but studies show optimizing those at even higher levels have a variety of benefits on things like sleep, energy, and even immune function.

About 6% of the American population has sleep apnea. In addition to being associated with several different cardiovascular diseases, sleep apnea can cause or worsen many of the symptoms of depression, anxiety, and even ADHD.

FAQS

More about comprehensive care

  • Typically when people think of behavioral health, they either think of medication or talk therapy. And while both of those can be hugely helpful, there are so many other things that can benefit mental health.

In comprehensive care, we’ll consider all the things that might be contributing to how you’re feeling and also consider treatments beyond just counseling and medication to help.

Everyone feels better with a good night’s sleep and a full belly, so sleep and eating are two foundational areas I address, but we can also consider things like meditation, movement, journaling, and even music to help you feel better.

  • Depends! There’s no one size fits all set of labs that I order.

I personalize your labs based on your unique situation - your current concerns, your personal history, your family history, and your goals - so that we’re only ordering what would be most helpful for you.

I often explore thyroid, nutrient levels, and blood sugar. When appropriate, we can also consider psychogenomic testing which provides insight into how your DNA affects treatment. Pretty cool!

  • I don’t. Just show up.

Showing up is the first, and often biggest, hurdle. So by doing that, you’re already over the biggest hurdle most people face. We can start wherever you feel most comfortable.

From there we can take it at your pace. Many people notice things just generally feel easier once medication is on board. So you may be surprised over time that it feels a lot less overwhelming, but even if it never feels right to incorporate any of these additional tools, that’s okay too.

  • Again, totally depends!

We’ll discuss your concerns and your preferences, review your labs, and then customize supplements and nutritional recommendations for you.

Some patients really like to keep it simple and only supplement the bare necessities, while other patients really like to use supplements as their primary form of treatment.

We can discuss the pros and cons of each option to choose what feels best for you.

  • I see enormous value in medication for some individuals. I also work with individuals who benefit solely from therapy, lifestyle changes and supplements. My individualistic approach is to find what is best for YOU!
